What is Home Care?
Home care is a broad term that describes a variety of services aimed at helping someone with health issues to live at home, versus in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Private home care — or private duty home care — often refers to non-medical home care services that are performed by an STNA (State Tested Nursing Assistant) or Home Care Aide. This may include:
-
Personal care (dressing, bathing, general help with morning/evening routines)
-
Homemaking, including laundry and light housework
-
Medication reminders and assistance
-
Grocery shopping and meal preparation
-
Running errands and transportation to doctor appointments
-
Companionship at home, social events, shopping trips or other activities
If you or someone you love is struggling with these activities as well as others, call Wexner Home Care at
614-559-5990 to find out how we can help.
How does it all work?
When you call Wexner Home Care, we will schedule a time for you to meet with an intake specialist either at home, in our offices or another convenient location. This conversation will help us understand your needs, goals and expectations so we can begin to develop a personalized care plan for you or your loved one. Typically, services start within two to four days from your initial call. However, if you need immediate help or want to delay the start, we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
As part of our commitment to excellent customer service, a member of our team will follow up with you regularly to ensure you are satisfied with your caregivers and the quality of care provided.
How do I pay for Wexner Home Care?
Unfortunately, most health insurance – including Medicare and Medicaid – does not cover private duty home care. While Wexner Home Care's services definitely improve client’s quality of life, they do not meet the general description of “medical” or “skilled nursing” care. With that reality in mind, our private-pay rates are competitive with those of other Central Ohio home care companies. In addition, if you have long-term care insurance our staff can help determine if your benefits will cover our services.
Wexner Home Care is also an approved home care provider through
Senior Options (Franklin County),
PASSPORT and the
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
We are committed to providing you with good value for every dollar you spend and we will never pressure you into purchasing services you or your loved one do not need. Some companies will ask you to purchase a pre-packaged bundle of services. We understand that every client is unique individual and has their own specific set of circumstances. That is why all of the care we provide is customized specifically for you.

How do I talk to my parents about getting help?
Acknowledging that it may be time to get help can be hard. Yet, this may be one of the most important conversations you ever have with a parent or other aging loved one.
And as hard as it is, our best advice is to begin the conversation before a crisis arises — while everyone involved can fully participate. No matter how much you love your parents or how much energy you have, there may come a time when it gets to be too much. And you may find you need support sooner rather than later. Openly and honestly assessing your own capacity as a caregiver takes courage, but is critical to everyone concerned.
Our goal at Wexner Home Care is to reduce the challenges of aging so that our clients and their families can focus on the relationships, activities and interests that are most meaningful to them. We can help set in motion a plan to achieve this goal, even if you are unsure exactly what services you need.
Call us at 614-559-5590 to talk to a team member who can walk you through the variety of services we provide and answer any questions you may have, including those related to cost.
Do you provide hospice care?
The short answer is that while we do not directly provide hospice care, we can work with the hospice provider you choose to deliver quality end-of-life care. We are available 24 hours a day to provide emotional, physical and spiritual support to the entire family.
Wexner Home Care is part of a comprehensive network of senior healthcare and housing services that includes
Zusman Hospice. In addition to caring for patients where they live, Zusman Hospice operates one of only two in-patient units in Franklin County on the campus of Wexner Heritage Village.

How will we recognize Wexner Home Care associates?

Can a member of your team drive my mother on errands and help her get out of the house more often?
The goal of Wexner Home Care is to preserve our clients’ quality of life and independence to the greatest degree possible. Helping them remain engaged in the activities they enjoy and keeping them socially active has been demonstrated to improve both physical and mental health. Our aides are available to drive and accompany clients to the salon or barber shop, visit friends, attend a book club, go shopping, take in a movie or play and much more.

Can you provide a caregiver who will respect my parents’ traditions and the way their household is run?
Absolutely. When your parents become Wexner Home Care clients, a member of our team will complete an initial assessment to determine their preferences so we can match them to an appropriate home care aide.
Whether it is respecting and honoring the dietary rules within a religious household, appreciating longstanding family traditions or recognizing a particular way your parents prefer the house to be run, we will do everything we can to provide culturally aware and sensitive services. If you have concerns, we want to hear them and will adjust accordingly.
And if, for any reason, a particular associate does not seem to be working out, we will find someone who better meets your family’s needs. This is all part of our continuing and deep commitment to client-focused care.
Will the same aide come each time home care is scheduled?
Whenever possible, and depending on how often you need help, we will schedule the same team of Wexner Home Care associates to come to your home. Our goal is to establish a trusting relationship with you and your loved one. We strive for consistency because we know it produces better care for our clients and it is more comforting for patients and their family members. Plus, it gives our associates a chance to get to know you, your likes and dislikes and how you want things done.
When it comes to home care, there is no “one size fits all.” Every one of our clients is a unique individual with his or her own unique set of circumstances and sometimes getting along is simply a matter of “chemistry.” Our focus is — and will always be — on finding the right people to meet your and your family’s individual needs.
Should your family want to request another caregiver for any reason, we'll search for a match until you are satisfied. We understand that a strong rapport and trust with a caregiver is vital to a successful home care experience.

Can I change or discontinue the services my loved one receives?
You can change the number or type of service we provide your loved one whenever it's necessary. We understand the care situation can quickly change, so we're as flexible as possible with your loved one's care. Plus, you're never bound to a long-term contract, so you can discontinue your relationship with Wexner Home Care at your discretion.
We believe there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to home care. We will never pressure you into purchasing services you or your loved one do not need or ask you to purchase a pre-packaged bundle of services. We understand that every client is a unique individual and has their own specific set of circumstances. That is why all of the care we provide is customized specifically for you.
