Wexner Heritage Village Announces $3 Million Challenge Grant from Leslie and Abigail Wexner

COLUMBUS, OHIO, November 16, 2012 – Healthcare provider Wexner Heritage Village has announced a $3 million challenge grant from Leslie and Abigail Wexner to support WHV’s most critical areas of growth and impact.

The Wexners’ gift will bolster the organization’s Campaign to Revolutionize Care, a five-year fundraising initiative launched in 2011, marking the organization’s 60th anniversary, as well as the finalization of plans to expand and revitalize its healthcare services.

With the announcement of the Wexner challenge, the original campaign goal of $10 million has been increased to $12 million to enable WHV to fully benefit from a matching gift opportunity initiated by the Wexners. The Wexners’ gift, when fully realized, would boost the campaign beyond the halfway mark of its increased goal. Of the $3 million challenge grant, $1 million will be given immediately, the second $1 million will take the campaign from $9 million to $10 million, and an additional sum of up to $1 million would be in the form of a dollar for dollar match in an effort to achieve up to $12 million as an overall campaign result.

Wexner Heritage Village is named in honor of Les’ late mother, Bella Wexner, who during her lifetime devoted extraordinary leadership to building the organization and shaping the core values that continue to define WHV’s commitment to superior care.

Reflecting on his family’s involvement with the organization since its founding in 1951, Les shares, “The responsibility to this organization is something my grandmother felt, my mother felt, and Abigail and I feel today. This is an enormous community good and it’s one that everyone in the community should support. I hope others will consider this a call to action and participate as generously as they can. I don’t think it’s the size of the gift that matters; I think it’s the collaboration.”

“Wexner Heritage Village has made great progress on the road to becoming the best organization it can be in meeting the needs of our community,” adds Abigail Wexner. “We believe that, with sufficient funds, WHV is well-positioned today to advance its services to new heights in our community while also gaining national prominence as a leader in geriatric care.”

In response to the gift, Randy Arndt and Jim Bowman, lifetime trustees of WHV and co-chairs of the campaign, remark, “In addition to the substantial financial support this gift signifies, the Wexner family’s advocacy as our organization’s namesake will inspire immeasurable goodwill at such a pivotal time in WHV’s progression. This remarkable commitment will allow us to advance our goals more rapidly while challenging others to also step forward in meaningful ways.”

David Rosen, President and CEO of WHV, states, “I know I speak for many when I express our heartfelt gratitude to Les and Abigail for recognizing Wexner Heritage Village’s progress and potential, and for choosing to invest so generously in transforming our future. It is significant to note that the Wexners are directing a portion of their gift this year to accelerate advancements in technology that are not so visible, but are absolutely crucial to the organization’s future viability.”

WHV Board Chairman Eric Wasserstrom comments, “Healthcare organizations like Wexner Heritage Village face unprecedented financial pressure to maintain services for a rapidly growing number of consumers, while also responding to demands for new and innovative programs. We are grateful to the Wexners, along with all of our contributors, for investing in WHV so that it can continue to grow and adapt to ensure that our community is provided for today and that our children and grandchildren benefit from our actions for generations to come.”
